Objective(s)	The student will be able to: 1) Identify and explain sound elements of poetry including rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and other repetition. 2) Identify and explain other poetic elements including setting, mood and tone, etc. that contribute to meaning.
Instructional Strategy	Inquiry
Learning Environment	Standard classroom with student’s individual access to tablet or computer lab.
Special Considerations	This is a 3rd grade inclusion classroom; some students have learning disabilities that prevent them from learning at an average rate.
Practice Opportunities	Part 1: Students will use their tablet or computer to access the educational app named “Image Searcher (Free)”. Once students are on app they will select any animal image they would like to write their poem about. Part 2: Students will now use the educational app named “Visual Poetry” to write a description of their animal and use “Visual Poetry’s” drawing features to have the descriptive text in the shape of that animal.
Assessment Techniques	Assessment will be given informally. I will assess the students understanding of the educational apps by walking around the room and offering assistance when needed. Students will also be assessed once their poem is complete by their understanding of the lesson objectives.

Student Prerequisites	Students must know how to open apps on their computer/tablet. Students must have an understanding of the lesson objectives. Students must be familiar with using new apps on their computer/tablet to complete class work.
Teacher Prerequisites	I must have knowledge of 3rd grade Language Arts and Poetry. I must also be familiar with both educational apps being used.
Preparation Requirements	Review objectives the day before and use this lesson as an assessment of the student’s knowledge about poetry.

General Comments	This is by far my favorite educational app listed for STD3. I enjoyed creating this lesson and plan on using it in the future because I believe it will appeal to all types of learners.
